> Arizona smartphone new feature 2: Help you sleep well (Alberta Times) A new app to improve sleep quality uses brain waves to track the time people spend in different stages of sleep. The new app, called Sleep Manager, works in sync with a soft sensor headband that measures brain, eye activity and other signals during light, deep and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Zeo, the developer of this app, said: "Sleeping well is not just about how long you sleep, but the quality of sleep." The manufacturer said: "Generally speaking, you want to be in rapid eye movement and deep sleep as much as possible." The soft sensor headband measures brain wave activity, muscle tone and eye movement. Professional sleep laboratories also measure the above signals, but this program is available to consumers. These signals are transmitted via Bluetooth to the user's iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone, and then uploaded to Zeo's website. Manufacturers say sleep tracking is just the beginning. After testing sleep quality, manufacturers will use this information to guide users on how to sleep. Research shows that people feel better when they wake up during light sleep, so this app can wake users up during this stage as well.
