(abc 15) Phoenix - As of Thursday night, the Phoenix metropolitan area will remain under a severe heat warning.
There is still a UV warning for the Phoenix area this Thursday. This means you should spend less than 10 minutes outside in the sun every day between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., as this is when the sun is at its most intense. Please limit the time you spend outside. If you need to be in the sun, be sure to reapply sunscreen.
The weather in the Valley will be very dry this weekend and into next week. However, we should also see storms approaching during the day's high temperatures in the higher areas to our northeast and north.
High temperatures will remain in the 109-112 degree range for the next seven days and we won't see much relief at night either. Morning low temperatures will only stay in the 85 to 89 degree range.
Stay indoors as much as possible as a safe strategy. Illnesses caused by high temperatures can lead to serious health problems. Remember to check on seniors and your pets to make sure they are well hydrated and safe in an air-conditioned room.
According to meteorological observations, next week we will see an increase in the moisture in the air that causes the monsoon, which will increase the chance of storms in the highlands. We could even see some storms in the Valley by next Tuesday and Wednesday, although the chance of that right now is only 10%.
