Atashi Yokocho is planned for The Sydney, a large mixed use project at 7339 E. McDonald Drive in Scottsdale. Restaurateur Huy Truong is preparing the Japanese inspired dining destination for a 2028 opening near Loop 101 and Pima Road.
The project takes cues from Japan's yokocho dining culture, where small restaurants and bars are grouped along narrow alleyways. In Scottsdale, the plan calls for about 15 separate eateries operating inside one shared location.
Truong has already brought several Japanese dining brands to the Valley. His portfolio includes multiple Mensho Ramen locations, tied to the Michelin recognized Tokyo ramen concept, and Udon Shin, a Japanese noodle restaurant that recently opened in Mesa.
Atashi Yokocho is expected to cover a broad range of Japanese food. Planned offerings include ramen, sushi, tempura, yakitori, yakiniku, kaiseki and regional dishes.
The restaurant spaces may vary in size, from small rooms seating about eight people to larger areas for as many as 50 guests. Truong is also considering rotating pop ups, which could give Japanese operators limited runs in front of Arizona diners.
