Gender-based violence, immigration, healthcare issues to be discussed in Phoenix, AZ.

PHOENIX, AZ?THE WHITE HOUSE INITIATIVE ON ASIAN AMERICANS AND PACIFIC ISLANDERS (WHIAAPI) in partnership

with Arizona-based Asian Pacific Community in Action (APCA) will sponsor a Summit on Women and Families to discuss

issues facing Arizona’s fastest growing community. Press are invited to cover the morning keynote by United States

Department of Labor Deputy Secretary Christopher P. Lu at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Pulliam

Auditorium, Burton Barr Central Library. The summit will focus on issues impacting Asian American and Pacific Islander

(AAPI) women and their families and include gender-based violence and trafficking, immigration, and healthcare.

On October 14, 2009, President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13515 renewing the White House Initiative on

Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. The Executive Order establishes the President抯 Advisory Commission on Asian

Americans and Pacific Islanders, the Federal Interagency Working Group, and the White House Initiative on Asian

Americans and Pacific Islanders. The Initiative, chaired by U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan and led

by Executive Director Kiran Ahuja, works to improve the quality of life and opportunities for AAPIs by facilitating

increased access to and participation in federal programs where AAPIs remain underserved.
