Gleeson Jail

An early 20th-century jail not far from the infamous Tombstone, Arizona.

About

Sitting along High Lonesome Road about 16 miles east of Tombstone, Arizona, the Gleeson Jail was built in 1910. While it survived a town-wide fire in 1912 and the near abandonment of Gleeson by the 1940s, the jail fell into a grave state of disrepair.

Restoration began in 2008 and the jail was reopened as a museum featuring early 1900s mining artifacts and local history.

To see how the jail appeared before restoration, seek out the blueprint-matching building resting in disrepair to the northeast near the former mining community of Courtland.

All that's left of a former camp and settlement is a plaque commemorating the water source found at this remote site.
