(Contributed by UCAA of Alberta) The UCAA leadership team held a special working luncheon at the Crown Hotel at noon on June 26th. Li Jian, President of Hualian, first introduced what he gained from participating in the "Eighth World Chinese Overseas Chinese Associations Conference" in Beijing. Important speeches by Prime Minister Li Keqiang, State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council Qiu Yuanping were introduced. President Li made a special in-depth introduction to the theme report delivered by Ms. Qiu Yuanping, director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, at the 8th World Overseas Chinese Association Conference, "Working together to create a harmonious landscape and build a national dream together." Director Qiu pointed out that the theme of this conference is: Chinese Dream, Overseas Chinese Dream - Unity and Cooperation to Benefit the Overseas Chinese Community. Director Qiu focused on this theme from three aspects: 1. Overseas Chinese communities are booming and the endogenous power is constantly increasing; 2. The construction of overseas Chinese communities is further advanced and projects benefiting overseas Chinese are steadily implemented; 3. Working together to benefit overseas Chinese communities and sharing the dream of rejuvenation. When President Li talked about his impressions of the conference and the subsequent trip to Shaanxi, what impressed him most was that the leaders and staff of government departments at all levels from central to local levels were very professional, wise, talented and approachable. Finally, there was a lively discussion on the construction of overseas harmonious overseas Chinese communities and the participating Hualian leadership team. I deeply agree with Director Qiu’s sincere suggestions, especially to establish four kinds of awareness and pay attention to four things: first, establish the awareness of taking root and pay attention to integrating into the local society; second, establish the awareness of honor and disgrace and pay attention to maintaining the image of the ethnic group; third, establish the awareness of obeying the law and pay attention to civilized business; fourth, establish the awareness of repaying kindness and paying attention to giving back to social welfare. Regarding the development of the Hualian organization, President Li proposed to add a science and technology and cultural exchange department and recommended Dr. Lu Zhong to be in charge, and the participants unanimously agreed. Next, everyone discussed recent hot topics.
