When it comes to low-price chain retailers, most people immediately think of "Wal-Mart" (Wal-Mart), but the latest survey shows that the average price of "Target" discount stores (Target) in August was slightly cheaper than "Wal-Mart"; and the key to "Wal-Mart's" failure is that food prices are too high. Bloomberg Industries, a subsidiary of Bloomberg Intelligence, compared the average price difference of 150 common products sold at Target discount stores and Wal-Mart within five miles. Analyst Butters said that customers of chain discount stores want to find bargains. "They will go to which store has better prices." The analysis shows that the key to Target discount stores this time is the price of food. Walmart's food price advantage dropped to 1.35 percentage points from 4.5 percentage points in the previous month, and according to another report previously released by Bloomberg Industry, Walmart's food prices also lost to the chain store Bottom Dollar. However, Walmart spokesperson Barnett emphasized that Walmart focuses on "lowest prices every day", unlike other retailers that temporarily lower prices through limited-time promotions. She also pointed out that Walmart currently implements a "price comparison guarantee" and the same products will never be more expensive than nearby competitors. Retail analyst Berg said that Target discount stores are still the best in selling seasonal products. She pointed out that this year, Target discount stores offer attractive discounts and the store layout is more comfortable. MacGyver, managing director of Connecticut MKM Partners, also said that Target discount stores have no intention of bidding with Wal-Mart on all products, and "only try to maintain similar prices to Wal-Mart on consumables and cleaning supplies." Bloomberg Industry Survey shows that the average price of Target discount stores was 0.46 percentage points lower than that of Walmart, which means that for every 100 yuan of goods, Target discount stores are 46 points cheaper than Walmart. Although it is temporarily losing to Target discount stores, Walmart’s prices are still more advantageous than online retailer Amazon. According to a survey of 36 common products by Kantar Retail in June, Walmart’s prices were on average 20% lower than Amazon.
