（本网讯 邢昊）五月十六日星期五晚，在一座占地十点五英亩的古堡式府邸中，钱德勒市议员(Chandler City Council)华裔参选人黄馨民(Sam Huang)举办了一场别开生面的竞选晚会。本州多位著名华裔人士、小区领袖、政党领袖等也都出席了晚会，为黄馨民加油造势。

在竞选演说正式开始前，府邸主人Nick Goodman led the guests to visit this European classical-style house, and patiently explained the design and use of each room. Afterwards, everyone gathered at the outdoor swimming pool in the backyard, waiting for the campaign party to start.

晚会由前州议员Barry Wong主持，竞选嘉宾有：亚利桑那州共和党主席Robert Graham、前亚利桑那州共和党主席Tom Morrissey、Arizona Asian American Association 主席Maribel Dillard、中华商会会长伍兆文等。 Each guest gave a brief speech, describing the role of Chinese in the state and the advantages of candidate Huang Xinmin's candidacy. The finale was the speech of candidate Huang Xinmin.他以一个匹萨为噱头，不仅迅速吸引了人们的注意力，而且生动地阐述了华人在美国的地位、作用以及参与政治的重要意义。

Huang Xinmin came to the United States 21 years ago and obtained a doctorate in education. He has served as a journalist, party executive, teacher, education researcher, and middle school principal. This is his second run for the position. He believes that this time's political views are more mature than the first time - "fiscal responsibility, economic opportunities, quality of life."此外，他还有一个政见，虽然未正式公开，但在当晚的演讲中，他做出了一个承诺，那就是每年争取专款一百万美元，做为亚裔小区文化活动以及各种事项之用。 作为一名参加市参议院竞选的华人，黄馨民认为自己的优势在于：”华人在美国的形象比较正面，因此在主流社会里，有一部分人对华人特别有好感，对竞选来说，这一点是加分的。”然而，已经落选过一次的他也有很多顾虑，”选举是数人头的游戏，钱德勒市所有的华裔加起来也不过四千多，实际去做投票登记的可能不到五百人，而这五百人又很可能不会都去投票。如果要在八月二十六日的第一轮选举就直接当选，大约需要一万四千票。”所以，在竞选这条路上，黄馨民的压力可想而知。不过，他自己倒是相当有信心，他说即使这次竞选失败，他依然不会放弃，因为他希望自己的参选和当选能够提升华人的地位和影响力。
