The Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, the College of International and Liberal Arts at Arizona State University, and the Alberta Chinese Federation will host the annual China-U.S. Cooperation Forum. The theme of this year’s forum is “Aspects of Sino-US Cooperation.” This forum will be held on September 22, 2013 at the MU Turquoise Conference Hall of Arizona State University. In the face of increasingly strengthened cooperation between the two countries, more and more Arizona entrepreneurs, senior executives of multinational companies and folk cultural and art groups frequently travel between China and the United States. In response to this need to understand bilateral economic and trade cooperation and culture, this is the fifth year that the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University and the Overseas Chinese Federation of Alberta have held such a large-scale event. Professor Sima Delin, Director of the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, said: "The annual China-U.S. Cooperation Forum hosted by the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University provides members of the local community and academia with a great opportunity to better understand various matters of Sino-U.S. cooperation. The speakers at the forum shared their deep understanding of Sino-U.S. cooperation, including their personal experiences, as well as the complexity of maintaining and developing Sino-U.S. cooperation in the 21st century." At that time, Congressman Matt Salmon Sir, Mr. Briand Greer from Honeywell and Mr. Steven Tu from Intel will attend this forum as keynote speakers. The Consul of the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles will attend the forum and deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum. Afterwards, Professor Smadelin, Director of the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, will introduce the guest speakers and the forum process to the guests. During the conference, the keynote speakers will share and discuss with the audience strategies on how to carry out mergers and transactions in Sino-US bilateral trade. As the only congressman in Congress who can speak fluent Chinese and holds an important position in the International Relations Committee, Congressman Mr. Salmon has led delegations to visit China many times. He will deliver a keynote speech titled "Strategic Partner or Economic Rival" and discuss cooperation opportunities in China. Mr. Briand Greer, as Chairman of Honeywell Aviation Asia-Pacific Region, lives in Shanghai, China and is responsible for the entire Asia-Pacific region. Honeywell is China's main supplier of economical aircraft C919. Mr. Greer will share his insights on the challenges and opportunities of operating aerospace manufacturing in China, as China hopes to join the United States and Europe in becoming a backbone member of the global aviation manufacturing industry. At the same time, he will also share with you his personal experience of working in China. Mr. Steven Tu, chief architect of Intel's mobile phone products, is working hard to define and develop the next generation of system chips in order for Intel to expand its mobile phone product business in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. Mr. Tu said: "In the past ten years, China has miraculously promoted the development of Intel computer business. As network technology continues, the mobile phone industry is developing rapidly around the world, especially in China. This momentum is forcing a paradigm shift from computers to mobile phones. My speech will show you the development trend of mobile phones in China, the development of Intel products and the transformation of manufacturing and mobile phone industries, the impact of China's economic system on new computing models and the reasons why the mobile phone industry is particularly important to Intel in China." After the forum ends at 5 p.m., the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, the College of International Liberal Arts at Arizona State University and the Chinese Federation of Alberta will host a reception for the guests. The reception, part of a series of events celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Arizona Ballroom of the Memorial Union. Consuls from the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles, representatives of the Arizona government and overseas Chinese leaders from all walks of life will attend the reception to welcome the National Day and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with the people of Arizona. On the same day, the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University will also hold a grand award ceremony for the winners of the Arizona Primary and Secondary School Poster Competition and the Arizona High School and College Student Photography Competition. Both competitions are for Arizona college, middle and elementary school students. Currently, the competition is in full swing. All of the above activities will be free and open to the public. Mr. Tony Tam, co-chairman of the China-US Cooperation Forum Committee, said: "This forum is an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about Chinese business from experts, meet representatives from the Chinese consulate, and develop relationships with leaders of local business communities. Don't miss this special opportunity."
