Technology news website CNET quoted an Apple statement on the 20th and reported that Apple has reached a settlement with American consumers in a class action lawsuit over iPhone 4 reception issues. US iPhone 4 users will receive $15 in compensation or a free case.

The iPhone 4 launched by Apple in June 2010 has been constantly complained by customers due to reception problems. Apple pointed out that the iPhone 4's antenna is wrapped around the edge of the case, and users often hold the lower left corner of the phone during use, which weakens the signal reception intensity at the silver edge, which is the crux of the problem.

If the iPhone 4 case is significantly reduced or removed, the problem can be greatly improved. The iPhone 4S, which was launched in October last year, did not have similar problems.

Apple initially ignored user complaints; then CEO Steve Jobs announced at a press conference that it would provide free cases as compensation, and claimed that other brands of mobile phones had the same problem.

Apple said: "This settlement is mainly aimed at the small number of iPhone 4 users who encountered reception problems and were unwilling to accept free cases as compensation in 2010."

CNET pointed out that eligible users will receive an email from Apple in April and have 120 days to apply for $15 in compensation. Apple has also established a related website, but it has not yet been launched.

But Lusken, the lawyer in charge of the case, said that more than 21 million iPhone 4 users are eligible for compensation, and pointed out that Apple only provided free cases for three months at the time. He said: "We believe that Apple's handling of the iPhone 4 issue is fair, appropriate and reasonable."

In addition, Japanese blog Macotakara quoted sources on the 20th as reporting that after Apple launched the iPhone 4S in October last year, the iPhone 5 will also be released in September or October this year, and new iPhones will be released in the fall in the next few years.

The release of new iPhones in the fall will allow Apple to catch up with the peak sales season at the end of the year. Apple's iPhone sales in the fourth quarter of last year hit a new record of 37 million units.
