Scottsdale woman sues Facebook A Scottsdale woman has filed a federal lawsuit against Facebook, claiming the social media company illegally tracks users' online activities. Sharon Beatty and her attorney, former Arizona Attorney General Glen Woods, filed the lawsuit in federal court on Friday. Betty sued Facebook for selling user information to third parties without the plaintiff’s consent. In addition, the complaint says Facebook uses cookies to track users' activities even if they have logged out of the site. Betty's lawsuit makes her the fifth person in the country to sue Facebook. Several are pursuing the possibility of class action lawsuits. Experts say Beatty and other plaintiffs face an uphill battle now that courts have dismissed similar wiretapping tort claims. In cases where lawsuits are filed, plaintiffs often cannot prove any monetary harm. "Facebook has become very well defended against lawsuits, especially since the tracking did not harm the plaintiff, and the judge may ask, 'Why are we here?'" one netizen said. Facebook officials said they have fixed cookies so they no longer track users who have logged out. Beatty and Woods did not comment on Monday.
