In the general election on November 4th this year, Chandler City At the suggestion of some city councilors, the Council submitted Proposal No. 479 to extend the term of office, changing the original limit of two terms to three terms. We are here to call on all Asian friends who agree with democratic values to vote against this proposal.

Chandler City Council members are elected for a four-year term and can be re-elected once for a total of eight years. If they want to be re-elected after eight years, they must wait for the next election two years later. We know that the US president also has re-election restrictions. The purpose is to prevent politicians from occupying the same position for too long, forming excessive private power and creating a breeding ground for corruption. On the other hand, it is to maintain the appropriate renewal speed of the government so that the government's governance can be more capable of adapting to new needs and changes.

Compared with neighboring cities, the governance of Chandler City is a relatively progressive and innovative city. One of the important reasons is that Chandler City Council members are limited to eight consecutive terms.

This 479 proposal is mainly because some city councilors are about to serve for eight consecutive years. They want to continue to serve, so they unite with some council members to support relaxing the limit on re-election. This is a very clear self-help proposal. Although a small number of people support this proposal because of their interests, the vast majority of Chandler citizens are opposed to it. In fact, the Chandler City Council has proposed three referenda proposals to remove re-election limits or extend terms in 1986, 1996, and 2000, but all three times were rejected by the citizens of Chandler. Fourteen years later, someone is trying again, hoping to take advantage of voters' inattention and pass the election in a blur, so that newcomers have no chance to stand out. In order to prevent the municipal government from being in the hands of professional politicians for a long time, in order to maintain the appropriate renewal speed of municipal power, Chandler's governance can keep pace with the times. We appeal again, hoping that all Asians will jointly oppose Proposal 479 and vote against it on November 4th.
