Two outstanding students from the ASU Chinese Navigation Program were invited to participate in the 2012 Chinese Bridge Chinese Competition (Confucius Institute) Every year, students from all regions of the United States gather together to compete for the opportunity to represent the United States in the Chinese Bridge finals broadcast on CCTV. The Southwest Chinese Bridge Trial Competition is co-sponsored by the Confucius Institute at UCLA and the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles and will be held on May 5, 2012 at the University’s Popper Theater. This year, two students from the Chinese Navigation Program, Ma Lin and Dan Johnny, will represent the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University and go to UCLA to participate in the Chinese Bridge Chinese Trials. Johnny Dan and Ma Lin were both outstanding contestants selected by the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles. The competition requires all contestants to give unscripted speeches in Chinese (within 5 minutes), demonstrate their talents related to Chinese culture, and answer a series of questions involving Chinese knowledge, common sense of Chinese culture and knowledge of China’s national conditions to demonstrate their understanding of Chinese culture. To participate in this competition, Johnny Dan and Ma Lin made full preparations. In the talent show, Johnny Dan will perform Dashan's cross talk or his own comedy monologue "Crying or Laughing." Ma Lin sang Buren Bayar's classic song "Father's Grassland and Mother's River". Jonny Dangerfield Zach Marin (Dan Johnny) (Ma Lin) Jonny Dangerfield and Ma Lin are students in the Chinese Navigation Program. This program is an advanced Chinese language learning program designed to cultivate students’ ability to not only apply Chinese proficiently, but also to use Chinese to learn professional knowledge. When asked for advice on learning a language, Danjoni commented that learning a language is a challenge and requires a lot of hard work and effort, but it is also a lot of fun. Everyone should cross the "safe zone" and try boldly. Ma Lin's comment is that learning a language must be done with full concentration and passion. No matter how difficult it is, as long as you work hard, success is only a matter of time. The "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition is a large-scale international Chinese proficiency competition hosted by Hanban and a well-known brand event in the field of world cultural exchanges.
