Fifteen Arizona State University students have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, ASU said Tuesday.

However, citing privacy laws, ASU said they would not disclose where people who test positive live, whether in residence halls or off campus, or which campus they are on.

Arizona State University spokesperson Katie Paquet said the university will see more community members test positive as the pandemic continues. Most of the 15 cases still live in Arizona, she said.

To date, there have been 326 confirmed cases and 5 deaths due to COVID-19 in AZ.

ASU's student newspaper, the State Press, first reported ASU's positive test results in an interview with ASU President Michael Crow.

The ASU community has the AZ's first confirmed case of coronavirus, and although the individual has since recovered, the individual is a man in his 20s who traveled to Wuhan, China.

Two days ago, Tempe Lodge, an apartment complex for ASU students, also tested positive.

At the University of Arizona, three members of the university community have tested positive for COVID-19, the university said. University officials did not specify whether those community members were students.

Arizona State University (ASU) is working with the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health and will defer disclosure of positive test results to the public health agency, Paquette said.

Students who test positive must self-isolate regardless of their location.

Paquette said if a student living in a residence hall tests positive and has a roommate, it will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Either the person who tested positive moved or the roommate moved, she said.
