(ABC News) The wildfires that have swept through the southwestern United States in recent days have affected Arizona. Firefighters in the United States said they were working to control a wildfire that spread to a rural town in eastern Arizona.
The wildfire flames threatening the Cedar Creek community have not caused widespread movement in the past 24 hours, thanks to sparse vegetation, officials said Wednesday.
The wildfire has burned approximately 67 square miles and started approximately two and one-half miles north of Cedar Creek. Part of the fire is now under control.
Firefighters are focusing on dealing with the problem of fire line expansion and carrying out fire extinguishing operations.
Local residents have been told to prepare to evacuate from exposed lowlands, Pine Tops and lakefront areas adjacent to the fire area. Gov. Doug Ducey issued an emergency declaration Tuesday to increase the state's budget to combat the fires.
It is reported that the wildfire started on June 15, and the specific cause is still under investigation.
