From February 21st to 23rd, the Oscar Showstopper Dance Competition in the dance world kicked off the Arizona qualifying competition at the Gilbert High School Auditorium. Arizona Art Academy) reached a record high both in terms of participation size and award-winning results, becoming a dark horse in this competition.

Group dance "Yaosha"

Performers: Ou liu, Lisa Chen, LIn LIn, Jie Cui, JingTong Xia, Christine Fu

won the double platinum award in the adult category and ranked among the top ten in total (first place)

This is a group of students who are not only beautiful but also very hard-working. They have two to three classes a week and work harder than the children. No matter whether they are rehearsing early in the morning or at 8 or 9 in the evening, everyone is never absent easily! Some of them are engineers, some are real estate agents, and some are beautiful mothers. Years of training in the audience have given them an elegant temperament and an enviable figure, which has given their lives a different brilliance. In just two months, I learned the new program "Yaosha", integrating the gentle and elegant temperament of oriental women into the dance, beautifying the entire audience! Delicate as silk, elegant as picturesque, it has become the shining star of this competition, ranking first among the top ten!

Solo "Long Tune" performer: Lulu Bi

In the Advanced level competition, she won the 1st Double Platinum Award in the 15-19 age group and ranked among the top ten in total. LuluBi is an experienced solo dancer at the Art Institute of Alberta. She has good folk dance skills and is becoming more and more familiar with her dance expressions. She has repeatedly won good results in major Chinese and American dance competitions.

Three Dance "Flying Sky"

Performer: Katherine Shi (left) Audrey Zhang (middle) Jessica Yang (right)

won the first place in folk dance in the 12-14 age group, 1st Platinum Award, and ranked among the top ten overall (second place)

Three children rehearsed this program specifically for the competition. The "Flying" dance embodies the characteristics of Chinese and Western art. The dance has a strong sense of picture and a ten-meter-long ribbon, which is a great test for the children's dance skills. These three children not only achieved very good results in the trio dance, but also won the 1st Platinum Award in the solo dance, and all ranked first in the overall ranking.

Solo dance "In Dance" Performer: Jenna Ko

Won the 9-11 age group 1st Platinum Award in Modern Dance

Jenna Ko is the youngest among all the contestants at the Alberta Academy of Arts and has the shortest time to learn dance. She is also one of the very few contestants who entered the intermediate category for the first time. Most of the contestants in the intermediate group take at least 3-5 hours of classes every week and have studied dance for many years. Jenna Ko has a high starting point and outstanding results. Both of her dances won platinum awards and she became a new dance star.

At the beginning of 2020, the Alberta College of Art won good results in multiple dance competitions such as Rainbrow and Showstopper. This is due to the joint efforts of the school management team, teachers, students, and parents of the Alberta College of Art over the years. The excellent and stable teaching staff is the school’s golden signature. Under the leadership of Principal Lu Lihua, school administrative teacher Jessica King did a lot of meticulous work for students to compete and perform. Young and lively teacher Li Cihui starts children's dance journey and cultivates their interest in dance. Senior teacher Qiu Xiaorong is the benchmark for dance demonstrations in Arizona and is loved by teachers and parents. Professor Chen Wei, who was newly joined in 2019, has put forward higher requirements for children in terms of dance choreography and special training. They have pushed the school's teaching quality to a new height and demonstrated the unique charm of Chinese folk dance to friends in the dance industry across the United States. Once again, warm congratulations to the Art Institute of Alberta and all the winners!
