According to the Phoenix Police Department, last Sunday night, the police broke up a dog fighting ring in a residence in Phoenix and arrested nine viewers. Phoenix Sgt. Trent Crump said police responded to the scene, about 1800 Southwest Cherry Road, about 8:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a dog fight in progress. Before entering the home, police said they could hear dog fighting and cheering coming from inside. As police broke down the door, spectators fled with two injured dogs. The dog was never found, Crump said. Police smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the home and after obtaining a search warrant, Crump said they found drugs, weapons, money and stolen vehicles. Nine people have been arrested, with charges pending and investigations ongoing.
