A report released by the federal government on Friday showed that the unemployment rate in 26 states increased in August compared with July, but in most states the unemployment rate was lower than the same period last year.

Nevada continues to have the highest unemployment rate in the United States, with an unemployment rate of 12.1% in August. North Dakota's lowest is 3%.

The unemployment rate in 12 states and the District of Columbia fell in August compared with July. Unemployment rates remained unchanged in 12 states.

The unemployment rate in 42 states and the District of Columbia was lower in August than in the same period last year, in 7 states it was higher than in the same period last year, and in one state it remained unchanged.

From a regional perspective, the unemployment rate is highest in the west and lowest in the central and western regions.

Friday's report will be used as the latest data to analyze the potential impact on the presidential election, especially in 12 key battleground states.

Some of these swing states had unemployment rates higher than the national average of 8.1% in August. The 12 swing states are Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
