The Federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced a pilot plan on the 14th. In the future, passengers over the age of 75 will not need to undergo a pat down or take off their light jackets and shoes when passing through airport security checkpoints. TSA's new guidance will be piloted indefinitely at some security checkpoints at Chicago's O'Hare, Denver, Orlando and Portland international airports starting from the 19th. This move is one of the authorities' efforts to improve the current unified security inspection procedures and speed up the speed of low-risk passengers through security checks. The TSA implemented similar measures last fall for travelers 12 years old and younger. Airports across the United States have begun to tighten security measures since the September 11 terrorist attacks, but TSA has long been criticized for using the same unchanging security standards for all passengers. TSA has also intensified criticism from the outside world since it began to adopt more intrusive body searches in 2010.
