[Malaysian Interior Minister: People have been sent to negotiate with intermediaries] The Malay Mail reported that Malaysian Interior Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed today that the Filipino militants who kidnapped the Chinese female tourists have asked for a ransom of up to 500 million pesos (approximately 69.61 million yuan). The Malaysian side has sent police and negotiators to negotiate with the kidnappers' middlemen in order to reduce the ransom amount. The kidnappers did not demand ransom for the Filipino hotel staff who was also kidnapped.

At about 10:30 pm local time on April 2, a hostage-taking incident occurred at a hotel in Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia. A Shanghai female tourist and a Filipino female hotel employee were taken away by a group of armed men. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires the local police to carry out rescue operations with all their strength while ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens, and take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese tourists in the area. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely follow the progress of the incident and guide the Consulate General in Kuching to do relevant work.
