Arizona’s population surpassed 7 million for the first time, according to a recent report from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The report says Arizona joins Florida in fifth place in population growth, beating out Texas, Colorado and Washington, D.C., with a population growth rate of 1.6%. That is, the number of Arizona residents increased by 107,628, bringing the total population to 7,016,270.

This report consists of estimates and is not the result of the 10-year census. The next official census is scheduled for 2020.

About 79,000 people immigrated to Arizona in 2017, 16,000 of whom were from other countries.

Health is another factor in population growth, with births outpacing deaths in the state this year.

>Idaho grew the fastest, with a population base increase of 2.2%, Nevada grew by 2%, and Utah grew by 1.9%, beating Arizona to rank second and third.
