Intel's Chandler chip plant exploded, 7 people were injured Intel (US-INTC) An explosion occurred at a microchip manufacturing plant near Octotillo & Dobson in Chandler on Tuesday, prompting an immediate evacuation. Seven employees were injured, and losses were initially estimated at $40 million. Chandler Fire Chief Miller said an explosion occurred at a building on Intel's local campus shortly after 2 p.m. The cause is yet to be determined. Intel confirmed the news but stressed that production would not be affected. Intel spokesman Kaude said that the building where the incident occurred is adjacent to a large chip factory under construction. Such buildings are usually responsible for logistics and store many chemical raw materials and gases used in chip production. Intel, which is located in Chandler, has two large campuses. Miller told the media that four injured employees have been sent to local hospitals with injuries including concussions and explosion fires. The other three with minor injuries have been treated at the scene. Miller said that the initial analysis of the starting point of the explosion was a chemical warehouse, and the fire was quickly extinguished. The damage has yet to be assessed. It is reported that after the explosion, all 700 employees of the microchip manufacturing plant have been evacuated. To investigate the cause, the plant will be closed indefinitely. Other buildings in the park will not be affected. According to Intel's official website, the Arizona plant mainly produces Pentium series processor products.
