Potential fire hazard Honda recalls 625,000 cars (Alberta Times) Honda looks set to become the automaker that recalls the most vehicles this year. The company announced on Monday that it would recall more than 625,000 Accord and Acura TL sedans due to potential fire hazards. This recall is actually an expansion of the previous recall. At that time, Honda recalled 52,613 Acura models sold in 2007 and 2008. That now adds 573,147 Accord models equipped with V-6 engines from 2003 through 2007. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the power steering hoses in these vehicles may deteriorate prematurely, causing fluid leaks. If the fluid comes into contact with hot engine parts, such as the catalytic converter, the fluid may cause a fire. Federal regulators say they have received one report of a vehicle fire so far, but no injuries were reported in the incident. The midsize Accord and Acura TL share many parts, often resulting in recalls involving multiple different brands of vehicles. The Accord is the second best-selling sedan in the United States. Recently, Honda has launched a new Accord model for 2013. Honda is expected to notify vehicle owners of the recall this month, and owners will not need to pay repair fees. But due to the large number of replacement parts required, it may not be until sometime in early 2013 that all repairs are completed. To learn more about Honda's vehicle recall, owners can call the hotline at 800-999-1009 or NHTSA at 888-327-4236.
