The banquet hall of the Hilton Hotel in Universal Studios Los Angeles was lit. It is bright, the crowns and covers are gathered together, and the clothes are fragrant and the hair is shadowed. The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles held a grand National Day reception here to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Congresswoman Zhao Meixin, Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa, Los Angeles County Supervisor Antonovich and many other elected officials, as well as representatives of various overseas Chinese groups, overseas students, Chinese-funded enterprises and other representatives attended the celebration. More than a thousand people attended to express their congratulations. The scene was festive and warm. The reception started with the national anthems of China and the United States. Consul General Qiu Shaofang of the Chinese Consulate delivered a speech. He introduced in English the main achievements of China in the past 62 years since its founding, including economic development, social stability, and national prosperity. Qiu Shaofang said that China is gradually establishing a social security system covering both urban and rural residents. Peaceful development is a strategic choice for China to modernize, enrich its people and strengthen the country, and make greater contributions to world civilization. China will adhere to this strategy in its future development and international exchanges. Qiu Shaofang pointed out that under the current international situation, China and the United States are not in a zero-sum competition relationship, but should cooperate on an equal footing. A partnership that helps each other not only benefits the two peoples, but also contributes to world peace, stability and prosperity. He said he was very happy to see that governments at all levels in the consular district have maintained close exchanges with China this year. Congresswoman Zhao Meixin, Arizona Governor Brewer, and Hawaii Lieutenant Governor Schatz have visited China one after another. Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa and Hawaii Governor Abercron will also visit China within the year. China also has a considerable number of provincial and municipal delegations visiting. He believes that China and the United States should visit each other as often as relatives. Only in this way can mutual understanding and mutual trust be continuously enhanced, thereby promoting the development of Sino-US relations. Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa said in his speech that the development of U.S.-China relations has promoted economic and trade development and personnel exchanges between the two countries. Chinese tourists regard the United States as the first destination for overseas travel, and Los Angeles as the first destination city to the United States. He also spoke highly of the Chinese community's significant contribution to the economic development of Los Angeles and the United States. Congresswoman Zhao Meixin and Los Angeles County Supervisor Antonovich respectively introduced their feelings about their recent visit to China, praised China's great achievements, and emphasized the importance of U.S.-China relations to the world between the United States and China.
