Serial 6 of the history and character stories of Huifengcheng Overseas Chinese Community: Reminiscing about the man who ran the newspaper Zhang Zhaohong Zhang Zhaohong I have kept an article about the deeds of Mr. Huang Shiwei. Few people may have read this article, because when this interview report was published, all Chinese newspapers in Phoenix had not yet been published. An article titled "Legendary: Honorary Police Medal Winner Huang Shiwei" was published in the quarterly "Fengcheng Huasheng", the earliest Chinese magazine in the city, in early 1990. Re-extracting it now is to let everyone know more about Mr. Huang Shiwei, and to provide more information about the earliest literary events in this city. "No matter where we are born or where we come from, Americans always regard us as Chinese with black hair and yellow skin. The Chinese should unite and organize into a strong group to unleash their unlimited potential and work hard for the next generation to have a firmer pace." Mr. Huang Shiwei, who wears an honorary police badge, put forward his insights to the point. Mr. Huang Shiwei was born in the Presidential Palace in Manila, Philippines. His father is the top security official of the Presidential Palace in Manila. He has the character of eliminating violence and helping others since he was a child. After receiving good security training, he has been committed to eliminating crime and maintaining public order. In 1967, Mr. Huang came to the United States as a technician and ran several prestigious restaurants in California and other places. In 1987, he and his family moved to Phoenix, the capital of Rapid City. Because he enthusiastically assisted the police in eliminating crime and made a lot of contributions to the Phoenix Police Department, the honorary police badge issued by the police also represents the glory of the Chinese people. With his rich experience, he pointed out that the main reason for the high crime rate in Chinatown in the United States is "gambling". Once young people fall into it, it is difficult to extricate themselves, leading to tragic consequences. He advised parents to educate the next generation to be responsible people and encourage their children to go to church. Children with faith in their hearts will not become bad. He also has expectations for young scholars. He believes that Chinese students studying abroad should take the initiative to make American friends, not be limited to small Chinese circles, work harder to learn more slang and jokes, and integrate with mainstream society. When choosing a job, don't work for the sake of work. You should first choose careers that are challenging and can be learned and used to stimulate self-training and self-education, and you will surely achieve the goal of success in the end. Behind every successful man, there must be a capable wife, Danni (Ms. Ge Huizhen's stage name). When she was a famous Hong Kong singer, she met Mr. Huang once when she was on stage in Manila. The gentle and courteous Mrs. Huang is not only beautiful and sweet, but also has a kind heart. They met, fell in love, and finally formed a family. After that, they had three children who grew up to be successful and successful in their careers. Her daughter was the "Fourth Princess" in the California beauty pageant in 1984. The above is the content of "Fengcheng Hua Sheng"'s interview with Mr. Huang Shiwei, the honorary medal winner 22 years ago, and the opinions he expressed. Mr. Huang Shiwei has loved Chinese culture all his life. Not long after he was interviewed by "Fengcheng Huasheng" magazine, he himself became the founder of the first Chinese-language newspaper in the city. He was also the first pioneer to establish a Chinese-language program on a local American radio station. On the Fourth of July, in China Week, at the Federation of Overseas Chinese and other large and small Chinese activity venues, everyone can often see his sunny smile and hear his magnetic voice. His image as a program host will never be forgotten for a long time. Mr. Huang Shiwei is very willing to help others. He has helped countless new immigrants who do not understand English to solve various problems ranging from food, clothing, housing and transportation to mortgage. Mr. Huang also pays attention to the participation of Chinese people in politics, encourages Chinese people to join mainstream American society, and unite to fight for Chinese rights and interests. I have known Mr. Huang Shiwei for more than 20 years. In the early 1990s, I had written and contributed articles to two local Chinese newspapers. When he was the president of the Arizona Chinese Newspaper, he often talked to us about the topic of Chinese participation in politics, and he himself had participated in the election. I remember that on May 9, 1992, "World Journal" published an article "The elected mayor sets an example for the Chinese." However, there were serious inaccuracies in its report. It pointed out that when the Chinese-American Deng Weili ran for mayor of Mesa, he did not receive the support of the local Chinese. The article read: "Even though there are more than 20,000 Chinese in Phoenix, the seventh largest city in the United States, all the people who showed up at the Mesa voting center to cheer for Deng Weili that night were white. Deng Weili's campaign funds did not come from the Chinese community." This is a report that distorts the facts. In fact, the Phoenix City Chinese began planning to support Deng Weili's candidacy as early as December 1991. Two local Chinese newspapers also launched a public opinion campaign in conjunction with Chinese participation in politics. On February 8, the Chinese held a fundraising dinner at Huamei Restaurant to support Deng Weili’s candidacy. According to statistics, nearly half of the funds for Deng Weili’s candidacy came from the Chinese community, and some donations continued after Deng Weili’s success in the primary election. At the voting center that night, there were Chinese people from Mesa and Tempe cheering for Deng Weili, including Deng Chaoju, the person in charge of campaign fundraising, the editor-in-chief of the Lianhua News in San Diego, and Huang Shiwei, the president of the Arizona Chinese News. In order to clarify the truth and bring justice to the Chinese people in Phoenix, after investigation and research, I wrote the truth as a report under the title "Inaccurate reports hurt the Chinese in Phoenix" and submitted it to the Arizona Chinese Newspaper, which dares to disclose the truth. With sufficient evidence, President Huang Shiwei was not afraid of the wealthy and powerful newspapers and arranged for this report to be published on the front page of the newspaper. From this we can see the courage and spirit of President Huang Shiwei in running a newspaper and adhering to the truth. Now, President Huang is gone, but his image of being helpful and innovative will remain in this world forever.
