"The most wanted criminal" was sentenced to 560 years in prison (Alberta Times) 47-year-old Arthur Leon Vitasek Vitasek, the most prolific sex offender in Arizona history and nicknamed "America's Most Wanted", was sentenced to 560 years in prison on the 13th for sexually assaulting eight boys. Witsek was charged with 26 counts of engaging in sexual conduct with a minor, indecent assault on a child, and engaging in lewd sexual conduct in public. He was all convicted in November last year and was sentenced heavily by Maricopa County Superior Judge Leinstein. Beginning in 1990, Witsek sexually assaulted eight boys aged 7 to 15 in Phoenix and the suburbs of Mesa and Paradise Valley. Authorities said Witsek often targeted poor single mothers, supplying them with supplies, showering their sons with gifts and caring for them. Witsek was arrested in Texas in September 2006 after more than a year and a half on the run. Before his arrest, the TV program "America's Most Wanted" reported on his case many times. Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in a Dallas suburb after he called police and said he was sexually assaulted by Witsek after meeting him online. Grand Prairie police said Witsek, who went by the name Loper at the time, finally admitted his identity after a detective recognized him and questioned his identity multiple times. Witsek told police he was tired of being wanted and was relieved to be on the run.
