The vice president of the Alberta Times attended the 5.12 Memorial Ceremony for the Third Anniversary of the Sichuan Earthquake (Photo) At 2:28 pm on May 12, people from all over the country came to the earthquake site in Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County, Sichuan to lay flowers to commemorate the "Three Anniversary of the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake". Alberta Times deputy president Zhen Kaiying, news director Xie Chengyan and 25 other media colleagues from around the world from the World Chinese Media Alliance participated in the event and presented yellow chrysanthemums in memory of the victims who were buried here. Behind the earthquake monument is the earthquake site of Xuankou Middle School in Yingxiu Town. The collapsed and tilted buildings still clearly tell us about the terrible disaster three years ago. After the memorial ceremony, the World Chinese Media Alliance visited the ruins of Yingxiu Xuankou Middle School and Xinxiu Primary School. Today, only the bright red national flag is left in the school. At that time, the casualties in primary and secondary schools reached three-quarters. All the media from overseas are paying close attention to what is happening with the school buildings today and where are the surviving children going to school. The "5.12" Wenchuan earthquake severely destroyed Wenchuan's educational facilities. All 83 school buildings in the county were damaged, and more than 10,000 teachers and students were forced to move to other places to resume classes. After the earthquake, Aba Prefecture gave priority to livelihood projects such as the restoration and reconstruction of housing, schools, and hospitals. Wenchuan County seized the opportunity of post-disaster reconstruction and integrated educational resources. The original 86 schools were consolidated into 25, with a construction area of 231,000 square meters and construction funds of 1.14079 million yuan. On August 27, 2009 alone, the total construction area of the 16 primary and secondary schools assisted by Guangdong in Wenchuan reached 222,550 square meters, which was 67,543 square meters larger than the original 83 basic education schools in Wenchuan County before the earthquake, and added more than 1,000 places. Nowadays, the safest thing in Sichuan is the school, which can withstand earthquakes up to 9 degrees, ensuring that "it will not be damaged by a small earthquake, repairable by a moderate earthquake, and will not collapse by a large earthquake." The project donated by overseas Chinese was named the "Overseas Chinese Love Project". The construction of 100 overseas Chinese love hospitals and 100 overseas Chinese love schools has been completed in the earthquake-stricken areas. The dollars donated by Arizona have now put children in bright classrooms. Yingxiu Xuankou Middle School Beichuan Middle School Love without borders
