The fire near the Grand Canyon has grown to 446 acres (Alberta Times) Arizona firefighters continue to extinguish the fire, which is 50% contained and is estimated to have spread to 446 acres. Information Director Punk Moore said the fires are burning in Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park. The location is eight miles east of Tusayan and 11 kilometers southeast of the Grand Canyon, at Grandview Lookout and the Arizona Hiking Trail, Moore said. Eighty-five people were assigned to the scene Wednesday to reinforce containment lines and extinguish surrounding fire spots. Officials are asking the public to avoid the fire zone near the Grandview Lookout Tower and traffic has been restricted around the Grandview Tower. All roads and trails in Grand Canyon National Park remain open.
