Eminent figures in the American and overseas Chinese academic circles commemorate the 40th anniversary of President Nixon's visit to China (AACYF Los Angeles News) February 28, 2012 is the 40th anniversary of President Richard Nixon's visit to China and the United States and China jointly issuing the "Shanghai Communique". Well-known figures in the overseas Chinese academic community across the United States held commemorative activities in various forms. Planned and produced by the U.S.-China Philatelic Center, a postal diplomatic commemorative card and two types of "Commemorative Envelopes for the 40th Anniversary of President Nixon's Visit to China" will be issued simultaneously in the United States and China to commemorate President Nixon's visit to China, the most important historical event in the history of U.S.-China relations. The commemorative cover was planned by Wei Jinfa, with text written by Dai Dingguo and English translation completed by Chen Feng. The pattern on the left side of the Chinese cover featuring Premier Zhou Enlai greeting President Nixon was created by Li Yinqing, the former director of the China Stamp Design Office. The American cover is a hand-drawn pattern of Chairman Mao Zedong meeting President Nixon in chalk by the famous painter He Qian. The Chinese cover is stamped with the postmark of (Beijing) Capital Airport Terminal Building 21. This is the postmark on the same day that Premier Zhou welcomed President Nixon at the Beijing Airport 40 years ago. Under the supervision of the U.S. Postal Service, the Post Office of Sacramento, the capital of California, the hometown of President Nixon, specially engraved a commemorative postmark for the "40th Anniversary of President Nixon's Visit to China" jointly designed by Wei Jinfa and Wei Zhongdian of the China-US Philatelic Center for this event; and a commemorative postmark for the "40th Anniversary of the Shanghai Communique" designed by Yao Jiajue. The planning committee for the commemorative envelope series includes Ms. Chen Xiangmei, who has made active contributions to a series of major events such as President Nixon's visit to China and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, as well as well-known figures in overseas Chinese academic circles such as Ding Shaoguang, Wu Yihua, Zhu Linji, Zhao Sihong, Liu Shaoyi, Du Lanying, Ren Xiangdong, Wen Guipeng, Zhang Tieliu, and Li Hua. They agreed that Nixon's visit to China and the Shanghai Communique, the most important outcome of his visit to China, were the most important milestones in the history of U.S.-China relations. Through the issuance and collection of commemorative envelopes, on the one hand, it commemorates the most important diplomatic event in the history of the development of relations between the two countries and remembers the great contributions made by these great people to the development of U.S.-China relations; on the other hand, it leaves the people of the United States and China with historical witnesses of the continued development of the friendly relations between the two peoples. The well-being of the people of the United States and China, world peace, and harmonious development are all inseparable from the cooperation between the United States and China.
