4 Republican candidates vying for the Giffords vacancy. The vacancy left by Giffords, the congressman from Arizona's 8th District who was shot and wounded last year, resigned in January. Republicans voted on Tuesday to temporarily replace Giffords' original assistant Ron Barber until the election. Republicans are also eyeing this vacancy, with four Republican candidates campaigning for the position that originally belonged to the Democratic Party. They are Giffords' 2010 opponent Jesse Kelly, a Tea Party businessman, state Senator Frank Antony, retired U.S. Air Force pilot and political newcomer Martha McSally, and businessman and radio host Dave Stone. For now, Kelly's popularity may bring him more votes.
