>This is the first protest in Arizona. Attacks against Asian Americans have increased since the COVID-19 pandemic hit a year ago. Advocates are alarmed by a recent spate of attacks against older Asian Americans, including a 75-year-old Asian man who died after being attacked and robbed in Oakland on March 9.
Chandler now has the highest percentage of Asian Americans among Valley cities, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. According to 2019 estimates, more than 10% of Chandler's population is Asian. The recent frequent violent acts targeting Asians across the United States have aroused the vigilance of citizens.
Dozens of citizens of all colors spoke generously during the protests, hoping that all ethnic groups can join hands to create a harmonious society. People will gather again in downtown Phoenix on March 27th at 10:00am Mountain Time in the United States. They hope that the whole society and the government will pay enough attention to condemn violence, especially racial atrocities, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of Asians in the United States.
The organizers of this protest are Chandler City Councilman OD Harris, Intel engineer Susan Liu and former Chandler City Councilor Sam Huang.
