Yesterday, the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Capital University of Economics and Business jointly released the first "China Urban Life Quality Index Report".

The pace of life in Beijing is the fastest in the country

According to the person in charge of the research team responsible for the report's investigation, the "quality of life index" is weighted by a series of objective indicators and subjective indicators. The subjective index includes satisfaction with income, cost of living, medical security, living environment, pace of life, and convenience of life; the objective index includes per capita wealth, inflation rate, green space area, Engel coefficient, etc.

According to the survey results, among the 30 provincial capital cities, 15 cities have a quality of life index score of 55 or above, exceeding the average score of 54.49. The top three cities are Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Nanjing, with Beijing ranking eighth.

Looking at different regions, the objective index of quality of life in cities in the east is higher than that in the west, but the subjective satisfaction is lower than that in the west. This is considered to be one of the reasons for Beijing's low overall score. Taking Yinchuan and Beijing as examples, Yinchuan's overall quality of life index ranks high (4th), which is related to its slow pace of life (48.68 points, ranking first); while Beijing's overall quality of life index ranks low, which has a lot to do with its ultra-fast pace of life (38.03 points, ranking last).

Subjective feelings account for 40% of the weight

They are both very large cities. Guangzhou and Shanghai rank high. Why is Beijing so low? The author of the report bluntly stated that Beijing’s environmental quality is obviously lagging behind.

The subjective feelings of the respondents account for 40% of the weight and will largely influence the overall results. For example, after the development of the western region, residents' quality of life has improved rapidly and residents' satisfaction has been high. In terms of "satisfaction with cost of living", Shanghai and Beijing ranked 20th and 25th respectively, and the subjective index ranked 28th and 29th. The cost of living is relatively high.

■ Follow-up

There are "two major contrasts" behind the rapid economic growth

In the past 30 years, my country's economy has grown rapidly, but there has been no corresponding "improvement in quality of life satisfaction."

Zhang Liancheng, dean of the School of Economics at Capital University of Economics and Business, believes that there are "two major contrasts" behind economic growth: first, there is a contrast between high-speed economic growth and residents' quality of life; second, there is a contrast between residents' actual quality of life and residents' subjective feelings.

Zhang Liancheng said that high inflation rate, high housing prices, low social security levels and fast pace of life are the key factors leading to low subjective satisfaction.

To this end, while continuing to maintain stable and rapid economic growth, accelerating the transformation of economic development methods, including changes in economic growth methods and income distribution methods, including improving the social security system, improving the quality of economic operations, improving the quality of economic growth, and improving the quality of residents' lives, are the most important tasks in the future.
