Recently, some lawless elements have made up and maliciously spread rumors on the Internet such as "military vehicles entering Beijing and an accident in Beijing." A small number of websites violate relevant national laws and regulations and are poorly managed, causing online rumors to spread and causing negative social impact. In accordance with laws and regulations such as the Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Maintaining Internet Security, the Measures for the Administration of Internet Information Services, and the Regulations on the Administration of Internet News Information Services, the Cyberspace Administration of China instructs relevant local network management departments to conduct serious investigations and punishments. The telecommunications management department has shut down 16 websites in accordance with the law, including Meizhou Window Network, Xingning 528 Forum, Dongyang Hotline, and Ejing Network, which spread rumors and neglected management and caused negative social impact.
In response to the rumors that appeared on Sina and Tencent microblog websites, which violated relevant national laws and regulations and caused adverse effects, the Internet Information Management Department of Beijing Municipality and Guangdong Province respectively severely criticized the two websites and imposed corresponding punishments. The two websites stated that they will conscientiously implement relevant requirements, take corrective measures, and further strengthen management.

Fabricating and spreading rumors must be punished in accordance with the law
The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau will detain those who fabricate rumors online in accordance with the law, and educate and admonish other personnel who spread relevant rumors online; the Cyberspace Administration of China has investigated and punished a number of Internet websites that spread rumors in accordance with the law. This once again proves that fabricating and spreading rumors will be punished by law, and once again shows the important role of the rule of law in maintaining a healthy Internet environment.
The Internet is a virtual society, but the virtual society is inseparable from the real society and is directly related to the harmony and stability of the real society. Internet rumors package lies as "facts" and turn speculation into "existence", causing trouble on the Internet and disturbing people's hearts. If allowed to run rampant, it will seriously disrupt social order, affect social stability, and endanger social integrity.
Our society is a society ruled by law. The real society needs the rule of law, and the rapidly developing network also needs the rule of law. Maintaining the rule of law on the Internet means maintaining basic social order and safeguarding the basic rights and interests of the people. Our country has a series of laws and regulations regarding the Internet, which are the basic rules for maintaining a healthy Internet environment. All Internet websites and netizens must abide by them. Those who fabricate and spread rumors have violated the law and will be punished by law. This also reminds us once again that both Internet websites and netizens must enhance their legal awareness, operate the Internet in accordance with the law, surf the Internet in accordance with the law, and jointly maintain a healthy Internet environment and good social order.
