On June 2, 2012, strong convective weather such as thunderstorms and strong winds occurred in Shenyang. At about 18:00, a red rainstorm warning was issued. As of 17:00 that day, the rainfall in Tiexi, the area with the highest rainfall in Shenyang, had exceeded 100 mm. Heavy rainfall caused serious water accumulation in the city and caused traffic jams of 1,000 meters in many places.
