Chief Executive: Hello everyone. This is the first time I have come to Beijing to report on my work since taking office. I have just reported to the General Secretary on Hong Kong’s social, economic and political situation, as well as the SAR government’s work priorities in the coming year.
During the meeting, I thanked the General Secretary for his affirmation of the work of the new government since it took office. General Secretary Xi said that the new government is "forge ahead, pragmatic and promising." He pointed out that our team's work is heavy and hard, but it is still proactive and has clear ideas for governance. He expressed his trust and confidence in me and my team.
He said that the central government will continue to firmly support the work of the SAR government in our governance in accordance with the law. The general secretary also said that after the central government realizes the replacement of the old and new leadership groups, the major policies for Hong Kong and Macao will not change. The Central Committee will implement "one country, two systems" and respect and safeguard the authority of the Basic Law.
General Secretary pointed out that the current development situation of the country is very good, and the magnificent prospect of national rejuvenation lies ahead. He believes that Hong Kong compatriots are mindful of this and will contribute to the great cause of national rejuvenation like compatriots across the country.
I thanked the General Secretary for his encouragement and support during the meeting. I mentioned that not long ago, we carefully read the report of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in Hong Kong and were very encouraged to see the direction and blueprint for the country's future development. The General Secretary’s speech to the press after the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, from which we can also see the country’s strength in a new round of development. I pointed out that Hong Kong's experience over the past thirty years clearly shows that in the country's new round of development, Hong Kong will definitely be able to obtain important impetus for the next development of Hong Kong society. And equally important, Hong Kong can also make its due contribution to the country's next round of development. I am confident that our country will achieve national prosperity and national rejuvenation.
This is a brief summary of the meeting with the General Secretary and other central leaders just now. Later, I will meet with Hong Kong people working and doing business in Beijing and surrounding areas at our Beijing Office to learn about their work and living conditions on the mainland. I know that the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China has offices in seven places in the country. In addition to friends from Beijing, there are also four other places, namely Qingdao, Shanghai, Wuhan and Chengdu. Representatives from these four places are here to exchange views with me. I know this is my first time participating in this event, and I hope to have more opportunities to communicate and meet with friends who work and do business in the Mainland in the future.
After arriving in Beijing, everyone knows that the temperature here is relatively low. I hope everyone can pay attention to keeping warm and taking care of themselves, especially when working outdoors.
Reporter: Mr. Liang, did you explain your problem of unauthorized construction to the Chairman? And did Xi Jinping ask you about the problem of unauthorized construction? How did you answer him?
Chief Executive: Not at all.
Reporter: ...What will be the focus of future policy? Will more measures be taken to further promote cooperation between Hong Kong and the Mainland in various financial fields?
Chief Executive: Special In the coming period, including next year, the district government will focus on five areas of policy. One is economic development, because to solve the social problems and people's livelihood problems that have accumulated in Hong Kong for a long time, a relatively high economic development speed and a sustained and relatively high economic development speed can be solved. There are four people's livelihood and social issues, one is poverty, housing, social issues for the elderly, and environmental protection. These five aspects, one economic issue plus four social and people's livelihood issues, will be the focus of the SAR government's policy in the coming period.
Reporter: ...how would you respond to the members of the Legislative Council preparing to propose an impeachment motion to you?
Chief Executive: I will pay attention to the different opinions of the Legislative Council and society on my work. Going forward, I will concentrate on the administrative work of the SAR and work pragmatically with the people of Hong Kong to do a good job in building all aspects of Hong Kong's economy and people's livelihood.
