In response to Japan’s claim that Chinese naval ships used fire control radars to illuminate Japanese warships and aircraft, China responded on the 8th and pointed out that Japan’s statement was completely fabricated and that Japan deliberately spread false information, smeared China’s image, and created tension. The Chinese Ministry of National Defense also announced the relevant facts of the incident that day, and pointed out that Japanese warships and aircraft often tracked and monitored Chinese naval warships and aircraft for a long time and at close range, which was the root cause of China-Japan maritime and air security problems.

In response to Japanese media reports that the Japanese Defense Minister alleged that Chinese naval vessels used fire control radars to target Japanese Self-Defense Force ships and aircraft, the Information Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense stated on the 8th that at about 16:00 on January 19, a Chinese Navy frigate was conducting routine training in relevant waters of the East China Sea. During the period, a Japanese Self-Defense Force ship-borne helicopter was found approaching the Chinese ship. The Chinese ship-borne radar maintained normal observation and alert and did not use fire control radar.

At about 9:00 on January 30, Chinese naval ships were performing routine training missions in relevant waters of the East China Sea. During the period, they discovered that the Japanese destroyer "Yuridachi" was tracking and monitoring the Chinese ship at close range. The Chinese shipboard radar maintained normal observation and alert and did not use fire control radar. Japan’s claim that the Chinese naval ship’s fire control radar is targeting Japanese warships and aircraft is not consistent with the facts.

The Ministry of National Defense emphasized that it needs to be pointed out that in recent years, Japanese warships and aircraft have often tracked and monitored Chinese naval warships and aircraft for a long time and at close range, which is the root cause of China-Japan maritime and air security problems. China has made representations to Japan on many occasions.

The Ministry of National Defense stated that recently, Japan has continued to spread false statements that distort and discredit the normal combat readiness training activities of the Chinese military. This time, it unilaterally announced false information to the media without verifying the facts with China. Senior Japanese government officials made irresponsible remarks, exaggerated the "China threat," wantonly created tension, and misled international public opinion. This trend deserves everyone's vigilance and reflection. China hopes that Japan will take effective measures to stop creating tension in the East China Sea and stop making irresponsible remarks.

In response to the above incident, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying also pointed out on the 8th that since Japan provoked the Diaoyu Islands dispute, China has always maintained restraint and a responsible attitude while taking necessary measures to safeguard national territorial sovereignty, and is committed to managing and solving problems through dialogue and consultation. Not only did Japan fail to correct its mistakes, it also intensified its efforts by dispatching a large number of warships and aircraft to continue to take actions that undermined China's sovereignty.

Hua Chunying emphasized that Japanese warships and aircraft have long-term and close tracking and surveillance of Chinese naval vessels conducting normal cruise training on the high seas, which is the root cause of China-Japan maritime and air security problems. This time, Japan deliberately spread false information, smeared China's image, exaggerated the "China threat", created a tense atmosphere, and misled international public opinion. "We can't help but ask, what exactly does Japan intend? We have to remain highly vigilant about Japan's true intentions."

"We hope that Japan will stop making small moves and return to the right track of dialogue to solve problems," Hua Chunying said.

At a regular press conference the day before, in response to Japanese media claims that China's recent assertiveness has affected Sino-Japanese relations, Hua Chunying said that China's policy of developing Sino-Japanese relations based on the principles and spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan has not changed. At the same time, China’s position on safeguarding national territorial sovereignty is unswerving. The problem now is not China's show of strength, but Japan's unilateral provocative actions on the Diaoyu Islands issue. Japanese ships and aircraft continue to illegally operate in the waters and airspace of the Diaoyu Islands, undermining China's territorial sovereignty.

Hua Chunying said that in recent days, the Japanese side has artificially hyped up the crisis, created tension, and smeared China's image. This approach runs counter to efforts to improve relations. China has always advocated the proper management and resolution of relevant issues through dialogue and consultation. We hope that Japan will face up to history and reality, work with China halfway, and make practical efforts to this end.
