"Maker" in English means a person who strives to turn various ideas into reality. The competition requires contestants to join a team of young people from China and the United States to share ideas, cultivate friendship, and use the professional knowledge they have learned to propose practical solutions to practical problems in current social development or industrial production.

According to the organizer, the International Department of the Ministry of Education, the Maker Competition will adopt a 54-hour marathon format to comprehensively test contestants’ creativity, cooperation ability, willpower and problem-solving ability. Chinese and foreign companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Dell, and ENN Group will guide the participating teams throughout the process and provide sponsorship support.

The official website (www.chinaus-maker.org) of the competition has been launched to announce the details and accept registration. According to the plan, six trials will be held in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, New York and the Bay Area in the middle and late this month, and the finals will be held in Beijing during the fifth round of China-US high-level consultation on people-to-people and cultural exchanges in early July.
