Spending cuts, some detained immigrants may be released. According to the "New York Daily News", the prison system of Bergen County, New Jersey (Bergen County) in Hackensack (Hackensack) may release immigrants detained by ICE. To save money, the federal agency on Monday began releasing some immigrants held in prisons and detention centers across the United States. ICE spokesperson Gillian Christensen said that with federal budget cuts approaching on March 1, ICE is directing offices to review detainees to ensure that the number of detainees is consistent with funding levels. Christensen did not give a figure for how many immigrants would be placed on "supervised release." Rights activists and immigration attorneys anticipate "mass releases," with dozens of people released from detention facilities in New Jersey, Arizona, Louisiana, Texas and Florida. Long Island immigration lawyer Bryan Johnson said a client told him that the Burgundy County Jail in New Jersey told guards to release 12 immigrants.
