For those applying for U.S. visas and passports, take a look! Computer glitches lead to delays in issuing passports and visas around the world. The U.S. State Department recently stated that due to a computer system glitch, the global database used by U.S. embassies and consulates for issuing passports and visas collapsed, causing delays for many travelers around the world who were preparing to go to the United States. U.S. State Department spokesperson Marie Harf issued a statement saying that the problem was first discovered last Saturday. The affected databases are primarily those used by the U.S. Department of State to issue, record and print visas, as well as passport applications for U.S. citizens born abroad. The major performance problem that occurred in the database this time has had a major impact on the work of U.S. embassies and consulates around the world. Harf further stated that although there are currently no specific statistics on the number of people affected by this failure. However, we sincerely apologize to applicants affected by this glitch. We are working hard to resolve the technical issue and will be back to work as soon as possible.
