Parents' Day How to express filial piety Wang Jae-seon The second Sunday in May in South Korea is designated as "Parents' Day" to show filial piety to parents. Every household puts a "carnation" flower on their parents early in the morning. At ten o'clock, I accompanied my parents to the church for the Parents' Day gathering. Invite parents to dinner at noon and evening, or give "red envelopes" and gifts to show filial piety. Malachi 1:6 says, "A son respects his father, and a servant respects his master. Since I am a father, who respects me?" In today's era, there is a great crisis, that is, the role of a father is becoming increasingly difficult to perform, and it is also difficult to do it well. In particular, children's respect for their fathers is getting weaker and weaker. The most realistic thing is that there are many articles praising mothers, but there are very few articles praising fathers. Today let me talk about fathers on Parents’ Day. To be a good father, most men will become fathers sooner or later. A biological father is a father as long as his children are born. It is not valuable. What is valuable is a father in human relations, because children are "inheritance" given by God. It is valuable for a father who is a Christian, so that the hearts of his children can be rooted in the teachings of Christ Jesus, so that they can walk in the light all their lives and be able to serve the Lord. How can we achieve this state? I will only mention a few points to encourage each other: 1. Keep in mind the words I command you today, and teach your children diligently. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7) 2. Do not make your children angry (Ephesians 6:4) In addition to not scolding or beating children easily, it also teaches a more positive meaning, that is, do not force children to fulfill their parents' wishes; instead, cultivate children's full self-confidence to avoid unfortunate events. 3. Make time for your children. Kafka, the great German writer, said of his father in an article titled "Oh! Father", "At that time, your heart was entirely focused on your career, and you couldn't even stay with me for half a day." Therefore, the lack of understanding of his son made the father and son strangers and miserable. If you can free up time from work, you can "know the condition of your flock and take care of your flock" (Proverbs 27:23). 4. An old crab walking sideways cannot teach a young crab to walk straight. This is a Western proverb, which means that teaching by example is more important than teaching by words. The father is the head of the family, and a father is a role model. He must behave well. Otherwise, the upper beam is not straight and the lower beam is crooked. Those who respect their fathers and can be filial to their parents generally know how to honor their parents. What worries us today is that in these last days, there are more and more "disobedience to parents, ungratefulness, and lack of affection" (2 Timothy 3:2-3). As the light and salt of the world, Christians should play the role of Christian light and salt, so that the world can see our good deeds, trigger their desire to return to the Lord, and glorify God on the day of inspection (1 Peter 2:12). What’s more, honoring our parents is a commandment that promises blessings and longevity (Ephesians 6:2); in addition to respecting our physical parents, we should further respect our heavenly Father, do more good deeds, and spread the gospel widely, so that we can become wise sons and make our heavenly Father happy (Proverbs 10:1) Amen. Note: The Republic of China (Taiwan) only has Father's Day, which started on August 8, the 34th year of the Republic of China. It is also known as Father's Day and is symbolized by plum blossoms, which means that they bloom in the harsh winter and are not afraid of frost and cold.
