——–Feelings about participating in the 2014 Autumn Parent-Child Sports Meet of Hope Chinese School

On Sunday, October 18, 2014, I was invited to participate in the Autumn Parent-Child Sports Meet held by Hope Chinese School at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler. The scorching heat has gone, autumn is pleasantly cool, the sun is warm that day, and the sky is blue and cloudless. Relevant personnel of the school set up a barbecue under the greenhouse early. As the aroma of barbecue came, hundreds of delicious meals brought by everyone were placed on the long table, and the preparations were carried out in an orderly manner. There were bursts of children's laughter in the distance. It was the Bounce House and the cotton candy machine that the school had specially rented in order to let the children enjoy the hospitality of this season. It was obvious that the school had put a lot of thought into this.

After lunch, various competitions and games began. Parents and children had fun together, with teachers assisting. Many families had three generations participating and had a great time. In my opinion, organizing parent-child activities can help parents create communication with their children, enhance the affection between parents and children, and the relationship between families, improve children's comprehensive abilities, and better develop children's social interaction skills. This is also the school's ulterior motive in planning this activity. As a private weekend Chinese school with nearly 400 students, Hope Chinese School also faces various challenges and endures various pressures. Principal Tian Lin said something to me that impressed me deeply: "The school needs publicity to let more people know and understand it, but more importantly and fundamental, it is to effectively improve the quality of teaching, so as to improve our competitiveness." I think, I hope that it is in this way that we can work down-to-earth and all the work can be carried out in an orderly manner. Chairman Zhou Qing and the directors actively supported and cooperated with Principal Tian. The joyful, peaceful and prosperous atmosphere at the sports meeting once again reflected the unity and competence of the school leadership. During lunch, Mr. Li Jian and Mr. Dong Bin sat across the table. I have seen the names of Li and Dong in the media many times. It was a pleasure to meet them this time and we felt like old friends at first sight. In close contact, the taciturn Li Jian seemed steady and mature, while the talkative Dong Bin was really full of energy. I have met Mr. Sun Hongwei before, and I am particularly happy to meet him again this time. He is warm-hearted, easy-going, and always has a smile on his face. He is very similar to me in middle age. I generally feel that I hope that all the teachers, students, parents, management, and volunteers of the Chinese school will work together as one, be united, have a harmonious atmosphere, harmonious relationships, and be full of positive energy. This semester, we hope that the Chinese school will open a non-profit adult English class and hire Dennis Yee, who has rich teaching experience in China and the United States, to teach. Mrs. Yu (Norma Yee) comes with Teacher Yu every time and does some teaching assistant work during class. Teacher Yu and his wife came to watch the sports meeting as guests. I remember that Teacher Yu introduced herself before her first class. He joined the U.S. Air Force in his early years. His brother-in-law was also a member of the Air Force Flying Tigers who helped China fight against the Japanese invaders during World War II and shot down three Japanese planes. Mrs. Yu’s father was also a member of the Flying Tigers and was stationed in Myanmar. Mrs. Yu was born in Myanmar. At this point, warm applause broke out in the classroom, expressing high respect for the heroic Air Force family. Teacher Yu and his wife are really connected to the school. At 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 19, 1995, the founding meeting and opening ceremony of Tempe Chinese School began in the Community Room of the Edna Vihel Activity Center in Tempe. Mrs. Yu, who has been enthusiastically helping and caring for Chinese students for decades, was a guest of honor and also spoke at the conference. Nineteen years later, we met again, and Mrs. Yu said to me several times with gratitude: "I didn't know Chinese Pinyin at that time, so I came to your school to audit and learned Chinese Pinyin. You, Principal Tang, didn't charge me tuition." Now her husband, Mr. Yu, comes to the school to teach adult English classes on a voluntary basis, and this incident has become a good story.
