Swiss Jet Man challenges to fly over the Grand Canyon Yves Rossy, a Swiss explorer who is known as "Jet Man" May 6 Japan challenged to fly over the Grand Canyon and became the first person in American history. Three years ago he also crossed the English Channel between England and France, setting a world record. Rossi jumped out of a helicopter over the Grand Canyon, a world-famous American landmark, performed somersaults in the air using only jet thrusters equipped with wings, and then landed as planned. The difference from flying from France to England in 2008 is that the 51-year-old Rossi didn't just fly from one end of the Grand Canyon to the other, but spent 15 minutes performing aerial acrobatics while flying over the Grand Canyon. He pulled a similar trick last November in the Vaud Gorge in Switzerland. Rossi will jump out of a helicopter at an altitude of 1,300 meters above Guano Point on the west side of the Grand Canyon at 9 a.m. local time, do some somersaults and then land with a parachute.
