Chandler Rodeo canceled due to virus scare A highly contagious virus is spreading across the state, and authorities are reminding horse owners to take steps to protect their horses. The Vaqueros Saddle Club in Chandler has canceled last Saturday's equestrian event to prevent the spread of the virus. "It's very disappointing," club director Alison Hale said. "A lot of people have worked hard for a year and the horses are ready just for this race. But there is no way to protect everyone's horses." The herpes virus, found in Arizona and Utah, presents symptoms like equine flu and can turn into a neurological disease that can be fatal. Marco will be an asymptomatic carrier.
