Flash floods feared after Arizona wildfires The largest forest fire in Arizona's history has just been contained and summer storms are approaching again, and fire departments are shifting their disaster prevention focus to preventing flash flood damage. Special fire management teams were working on the final cleanup of a fire in the eastern Apache-Screaves National Forest on Tuesday and completed fire break patrols before beginning flood control efforts in local forests and the White Mountain Apache Tribe. When the rainy season comes, flash floods are inevitable. The same concerns were raised at two other major fire scenes. A small thunderstorm late on Independence Day quickly turned the Little Colorado River into a raging torrent, but it was unlikely to develop into a flood just yet.
