More than seven months after Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Gifford was shot, a bipartisan polite truce is coming to an end. Republican state Sen. Frank Antenori has filed papers to potentially run for Giffords' current seat in the House of Representatives. Antinori is the first Republican to publicly announce a possible run against Democrat Giffords. Giffords has been in treatment and recovery after being shot in the head in January in Tucson. Antinori's assistant said: "He is seriously considering running, but has not yet made a formal decision." According to last year's census, the island added a new congressional district in the 2012 general election, but the district boundaries have not yet been finalized. Giffords has not said publicly whether she plans to run for re-election. Giffords surprised almost everyone by returning to Congress in early August for the first time since the shooting to vote on raising the debt limit. Democratic Party leader Debbie. Schultz said she looks forward to Giffords returning to Congress "full time."
