Phoenix City implements emergency drills (Alberta Times) Last week, 8,000 first responders from 150 government and civilian agencies, as well as the Arizona National Guard, participated in a disaster response exercise called the Vigilante Guard. Vigilant Guard simulated a 10-kiloton nuclear device detonating in downtown Phoenix, affecting an estimated 57,000 civilians. Scenes include firefighters rescuing people trapped in a pile of rubble, two designated hospitals responsible for professional burn treatment, air transport of the injured, and the establishment of a central decontamination area. This is the largest emergency drill in Arizona's history.
