Jonathan Rothschild elected mayor of Tucson (Alberta Times) Jonathan Rothschild has been elected as the new mayor of Tucson and will replace the departing Wald. Rothschild of the Democratic Party has lost 55% of the votes to his opponents, Republican Rick Grinnell and the Green Party's Married Kemp. This is the first time since 1999 that a Democratic Party has governed Tucson. Rothschild was a lawyer before his election. He promised to launch a discussion on business interests and establish a liaison group between small businesses and the mayor's office within his first 180 days in office. City campaign committee officials said turnout this year was about 38%. The highest turnout was in 1999, 41%. Also changing mayors was Surprise, where WOLCOTT, SHARON was elected.
