Rain and snow have hit Honshu hard in recent days. Mountainous areas in the north such as Sedona and Flagstaff have long been covered in snow, and even the mountains around Tucson in the southern desert have turned into snowy mountains. The slopes are getting enough snow to allow Lemon Mountain Ski Area north of Tucson to open its doors this weekend. Davis, the ski area manager, said this is one of the earliest seasons they've ever been open. They usually open around Christmas, but it varies greatly from season to season. The weather was warm last year, and skiers managed to play for two weeks before January before it closed due to lack of snow. Davis said that according to weather forecasts, this amount of snow could extend into the New Year's Day holiday. Ski enthusiasts don’t have to risk driving to Flagstaff just to ski, they can also go south to Tucson for skiing.
