Drones are coming to the state to monitor illegal activities in Mexico (Alberta Times) Authorities on Tuesday obtained another high-tech surveillance drone that can fly over Arizona's rugged border area to search for drug smugglers and illegal immigrants crossing the border from Mexico. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Customs and Border Protection said the Predator B drone was stationed at the National Air Security Operations Center in Sierra Vista, Arizona, a few miles north of the Mexican border in southeastern Arizona. The addition of this drone to the lineup brings the number of CBP drones used to monitor the nearly 2,000-mile-long border with Mexico in the southwestern United States to six; four of them are based in central Arizona, and the other two are based in Corpus Christi, Texas. "Missions from these two centers allow CBP to deploy drones from the eastern tip of California to fly across Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas' shared land border with Mexico," CBP said in a statement.
