Automobile manufacturers Toyota and Chrysler both recalled (Alberta Times) Toyota said on Wednesday, March 7, that it would recall nearly 730,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada to address potential problems with the driver's air bag and a switch that could prevent the vehicle from starting. Toyota said it was not aware of "any accidents or injuries resulting from either situation" and that the affected models were not sold outside of North America. In addition, Chrysler Automobiles, a unit of Italy's Fiat, also announced on the same day that it would recall more than 267,000 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicles worldwide to address a potential corrosion problem that could lead to crashes. Chrysler said in an emailed statement that the global recall affects 267,353 vehicles and targets 2004 and 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport utility models. Chrysler is recalling 209,746 vehicles in the U.S., mainly in states where road salt is often used to prevent skids in the winter.
